The quarterly Adabiyāt

The Academy’s quarterly Urdu journal Adabiyāt is one of the most prestigious literary journals of Pakistan. Its first issue was published in July, 1987. Adabiyāt has been published regularly since its first issue. Although it is published in Urdu, but it also includes translations from other Pakistani languages such as Sindhi, Balochi, Punjabi, Pashto, Brahui, Saraiki, Hindko, Pothohari, Kashmiri, Shina, Balti, Gojri etc. This journal is a true representative of all Pakistani languages. During last thirty-seven years, this journal has played a key role in bringing the literature of all Pakistani languages to Urdu readers. A speciality of this journal is its special issues; both on literary trends and personalities.
Special issues relating to literary trends and themes include International Literature Number (spanning over 4,000 pages), Children’s Literature Number (more than 2,000 pages), Female Writers’ Number, SAARC Literature Number, Prose-Poem Number, Na‘at Number, Pārvasī Literature Number, Peripheral (Muẕāfātī) Literature Number, Urdu Novel Number, Diamond Jubilee Number, Nasl-i Nau (Youth) Number, and Palestine Number. Special issues on literary personalities include Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi Number, Faiz Ahmed Faiz Number, Ahmed Faraz Number, Josh Malih Aabadi Number, Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali Number, Intizar Hussain Number, Abdullah Hussain Number and Nabi Bakhsh Baloch Number etc.
Mr. Khalid Iqbal Yasir, Ms. Nighat Salim, and Mr. Asim Butt have served as editors of the Adabiyāt. Presently, Mr. Akhtar Raza Saleemi is serving as Editor of this journal.
